Graduation 2009
Five students graduated from the Africa Leadership and Management Academy (ALMA) on the 5th of September with Masters of Arts in Leadership and Management degrees. The ceremony was the fourth graduation for ALMA since its inception in 1999. To date 40 students have graduated from ALMA with a Master of Arts in Leadership and Management.
The ceremony which was held at ALMA was attended by dignitaries representing several embassies in Zimbabwe, captains of industry, invited guest as well as family and friends of the graduates.
Dr. Overs Banda in his speech as the guest speaker charged the graduates to “ go and perform and prove to yourself that you can do it. You have to go and make a difference to your employers and your countries. Let people see the fruits of ALMA in you. Adam blamed Eve his wife. Eve blamed the serpent. At least the serpent blamed no one. Who are you going to blame? We are always quick at blaming others and never think of blaming ourselves. Take responsibility for your successes and when failure occurs take a personal blame. Do not blame someone else. When your judgement by God comes, who are you going to blame? May the almighty God bless you for your achievement for which I offer my sincere congratulations”
The Executive Director Dr. Dwight Mutonono challenged guests to pledge towards Phase II of ALMA’s building project. ALMA would like to raise $600,000 to complete a classroom block, and is looking for 600 people who can donate $1000 in the next 10 months towards this worthy cause. Though the challenge was given to the invited guests, it was opened to all. The Executive Director was the first to admit that challenge seems insurmountable given the current economic situation in the country, but with God nothing is impossible. The challenge has been aptly tagged “WITH GOD WE CAN!”
